BMW Plant Experiences Vertical Cracking to 16 Masonry Piers
The Problem
ASRS can utilise many specialist methods of repair to restore the structural integrity of failed masonry. ASRS were recommended by Helifix, then approached by BMW who required a contractor to design a specification and carry out the installation that would restore the structural integrity of the 16 masonry piers where vertical cracking had occurred due to thermal expansion. The works were carried out over weekends to enable the plant to operate as normal, without disruption.
The Solution
On completion of our survey at the plant ASRS proposed a design for the necessary remedial works required. The specification was to install 322 single bands of Helibar crack reinforcing horizontally across the cracks and to reconnect the masonry piers back to the main structure thus offering substantial resistance to further cracking.
ASRS completed the works within the time scale allowing the plant to operate without any disruption to the day to day running of the plant.
Completed Project
Once all Helifix crack stitches and Dryfix pinning ties had been installed, general repairs were carried out and existing cracks were raked out and injected with thixotropic cementitious grout. All disturbed mortar was made good and the cracked bricks were tinted to match near as practicable.
