Helifix Repairs to a Property Suffering from Masonry Cracking
The Problem
We were approached by a residential client requiring a repair scheme where they had noticed cracking to various areas of the front elevation. Our local surveyor visited the property and discussed the best course of action with the client whilst on site. We provided a full specification, detailed drawings and a quotation, shortly after the survey.
The Solution
We specified the installation of the Helibeam system, designed to restore the structural integrity of the masonry where cracking had occurred. The Helibeam system was installed laterally to distribute the structural loads and reconnected the external bay elevation back to the main structure, offering substantial resistance to further cracking.
We began the project installing the Helifix system to the ground floor bay window. We installed 2 No. twin bands of Helibar horizontally to the masonry underneath the window and 3 No. twin bands of Helibar above. The Helibar was drilled back to the main structure and resin bonded.
In conjunction with the Helibeam repairs, we installed 7 No. Helifix Cem ties horizontally, into the right hand side of the window, to secure the masonry around the window frame.
Following this we installed 2 No. Helifix Cem ties to the masonry above the door frame, alongside the installation of 2 No. Helifix twin bands horizontally across the existing vertical cracks above the porch.
To complete the Helifix repairs we installed 2 No. Helifix Cem Ties to the first floor window above the porch section. These positioned at the top corner of the window. Above the window we installed 1 No. Helifix twin band horizontally across the existing cracks.
Project Completion
Upon completion we raked out all existing cracks and injected with Thixotropic Cementitious grout and made good to areas of mortar and render disturbed by our installation.
The project was complete in two days, to minimal disruption of the client. We provided a 10 Year Helifix indemnified guarantee.
