Residential Bungalow Suffering From Downward Movement
The Problem
ASRS Ltd were contacted to provide a specification for structural stabilisation works to a bungalow which was suffering from downward movement and cracked masonry.
The Solution
We specified the installation of Helifix masonry beams to distribute the structural loads.
We installed 2 No. twin bands of Helibar stainless steel bed joint reinforcement positioned horizontally to the front elevation returned to the gable elevation. Followed by the installation of 2 No. twin bands of Helibar stainless steel bed joint reinforcement to the gable elevation returned to the front and rear elevation. Finally we installed 2 No. twin bands of Helibar stainless steel bed joint reinforcement to the rear elevation returning to the gable elevation.
We raked out the existing cracks and injected using thixotropic cementitious grout. We then made good all areas of mortar disturbed by our installed and mortar colour was matched as near as practicable.
Within our specification we prepared a scheme for the installation of MacLean Dixie screw down micro piles to the sub-structure.
The works comprised of the installation of 12 No. MacLean Dixie piles. Each pile to have 203mm, 254mm and 305mm diameter helices to provide the bearing capacity and screwed into a depth of 6m or refusal.
Prior to installation of the piles our highly skilled technicians broke up the existing concrete path where necessary. This was followed by setting out the pile positions according to our specification. Once this was complete we excavated to allow the installation of 12 No. piles.
Following the installation of the piles we backfilled and compacted the excavated areas and re-instated the concrete path.
The work was carried out within time and budget to the client’s satisfaction.
