ASRS Executes Large-Scale Repairs for Valued Educational Institution
Riverston School in Lewisham entrusted ASRS with a significant structural restoration project, recognising our established track record in educational and public sector works. This extensive undertaking highlighted our proficiency in managing complex structural issues within educational settings.
The Challenge:
Riverston School, a key educational facility in Southeast London, was grappling with widespread cracking and downward movement across multiple areas of its structure. The school required a comprehensive solution to address both immediate structural concerns and ensure long-term stability.
Our Approach
ASRS crafted a bespoke, Extensive Structural Restoration strategy utilising the innovative Helifix system. Our thorough plan addressed 15 distinct repair areas, each presenting unique structural challenges:
- Masonry Reinforcement:
- Installation of 14 twin bands of Helibar 60 stainless steel bed joint reinforcing across various repair zones
- Strategic placement of 91 single bands of Helibar 60 for crack reinforcement, with some requiring specialised positioning
- Structural Stabilisation:
- Implementation of 10 Helifix Pinning Cem ties in critical areas to enhance structural integrity
- Crack Treatment:
- Meticulous raking out and injection of thixotropic grout across all repair zones
- Foundation Reinforcement:
- Installation of 8 ABC 60R Anchors to depths of 4-5m, providing crucial substructure support for two building sections
- Finishing Touches:
- Careful repointing and mortar restoration to maintain the building’s aesthetic integrity
Results and Achievements
- Successfully stabilised and reinforced 15 distinct areas of the school building
- Implemented innovative foundation support solutions to address underlying structural issues
- Completed all repairs within the agreed timeline during the summer break
